Serena (Craig of the Creek) (2024)

Serena is the main antagonist of the Craig of the Creek prequel movie: Craig Before the Creek. She is the former leader of the Pirate Kids, who had plundered the Creek for years before the events of the movie before its disbandment. She is the first enemy that Craig has faced during his adventures in the Creek, making her his first ever archenemy.

Appearance[]

Serena seems to be a young teen and is rather slim. She has dark skin, large expressive eyes, black hair, and her ears are covered by her hair.

Outfit[]

Her main outfit consists of a red heavy shirt, a white shirt over it with a blue skull on it, a heavy dark blue coat, beige pants, and dark brown boots. She uses a dark brown or blue sword as a weapon. When she was a kid, her outfit looked similar to her outfit now. She wore a white shirt with a blue skull on it, and orange shorts. At the end of the movie, she wore a big red jacket.

Personality[]

Serena is very confident, who tries to get what she wants and won't hesitate to bully others to accomplish her goals. She is willing to do anything from anyone taking The Wishmaker, so she can use it and wish to flood the creek. Later, it is revealed that the reason to flood the creek is so she can sail away and go back to where she originally lived, with having a beach as her backyard instead of a creek. Both her and Craig's wishes are similar, as they both want to go back to where they originally lived, and Craig tells her that he hated living at the creek until he met his true friends, and he loves it more than his other home, which leaves Serena in tears. She realizes that she shouldn't flood the creek, and wishes for everything to be normal. At the end of the movie, she builds herself a boat and sails "wherever the creek takes her."

Background[]

Serena was once a kid who lived in an oceanside home where she and her friends would play and have ice cream in the summer. Riding bikes with her friends in the summer brought her joy and happiness with the ocean in the backyard. Unfortunately, her parents decided to move to Herkleton Mills, away from her friends and all that she had known. Lonely and with no friends, she became angry and bitter, forming the Pirate Kids in order to escape from her parents and became a wrathful pirate. She soon began to torment the fellow kids of the Creek along with her crew members, who decided to join for the freedom and adventures that came with being a pirate. However, Serena still missed her old home and vowed to return their one day, even if it meant flooding the Creek in the process.

Prior to the Events of the Film[]

Eventually, after discovering only half of its map, Serena learns of the existence of the Wishmaker, an artifact with the power to grant anyone's wish. This led to her ordering her crew to capture Hannah, an explorer in the Creek who had been searching for the Wishmaker and possessed the other half. This resulted in a long chase throughout the Creek with the Pirate Kids barely missing her before she escaped. However, this did nothing to dissuade Serena from continuing on her quest to find the map, then the Wishmaker and to flood the Creek in order to sail back home.

Craig Before the Creek[]

After Craig moves into Hannah's old house, he discovers the Creek after losing Jessica's Small Uncle toy in the woods. As he tries to barter the doll back from Kit, the Timekeeper sounds her sousaphone warning about pirates. Soon, the Pirate Kids and their ship arrive and begin to cause havoc, stealing the candy and goods from the other inhabitants. After Craig trips and loses Small Uncle, Serena reveals herself and picks the doll up. Craig angrily takes it back, exclaiming that it belongs to his sister, much to the shock of everyone present. Serena then starts laughing sad*stically, claiming herself as the one who runs the creek before preparing to strike him. However, Mortimor appears and distracts Serena as Kelsey saves Craig before she sends her crew after them. Both Craig and Kelsey manage to escape, only to leave Small Uncle behind for Serena to steal.

Not long afterwards, Craig discovers Hannah's journal and a half of a map to the Wishmaker. Enlisting the help of Kelsey, both of them begin a journey to find the Wishmaker so that Craig can wish to return to his old home. However, they are unfortunately captured by the Pirate Kids again and taken to J.P., who is a resident pirate kid and the crew's "torturer." After befriending J.P. and inviting him on their quest, Craig and Kelsey are taken to Serena, who is aware that Craig possesses the other piece of the map. She is sympathetic to Craig for being "the new kid" and invites him to join her crew in exchange for the other half of the map. During this exchange, she and her crew engage in the musical number "Join Us" as a sales pitch. However, she also reveals her intention to flood the Creek and sail back to the sea, horrifying Craig due to the amount of destruction her wish could bring. After he refuses, she orders for them both to walk the plank, until J.P. stops her and tries to convince the other kids to stop being bullies. When they reject his pleas and berate him, he stamps his foot in frustration, causing a mild vibration. This gives Craig and Kelsey an idea to bounce on the deck and throw the Pirate Kids overboard. During this debacle, they manage to steal back the map and make an escape before the dinner horn is sounded. As the trio manage to escape, Serena orders some of her remaining crew to risk grounding in order to aid her in her quest to retrieve the map and the Wishmaker.

Eventually, the Pirate Kids catch up to Kelsey and J.P. after Craig leaves them to pursue the Wishmaker himself. After Craig finds it in its hiding place and begins to wish to return to his old friends, Serena and her crew ambush Craig and threatens him to hand over the Wishmaker. He tries to fight back against her, only to fail and for Serena to take it. After using the code in Hannah's diary to activate the Wishmaker, she wishes for the Creek to "be as wild as the ocean!" Soon, the cave begins to flood as a massive storm rages from the outside. After Craig, Kelsey, Mortimor, J.P., Serena and the three Pirate Kids rush outside to see the Creek overrun with water. Meanwhile, Serena returns to her ship and calls for her crew to join her aboard, but her remaining crew members flee in fear of the rain. Serena foolishly attempts to make it on deck, until a wave knocks Craig, Kelsey and J.P. onto the rope ladder with Serena hanging on to the bottom rung. While Craig attempts to save her life from drowning, she is hesitant to let go of the Wishmaker and is swept up in the waves.

Craig, having realized that his wish had nearly cost him his new friends and the Creek, resolves to find the Wishmaker and undo her wish. With J.P. helming the ship, they find the Wishmaker on a barren rock. As Craig makes a grab for it, Serena rises from the water and refuses to let Craig undo her wish. As she attempts to strike Craig with her sword, Kelsey steps in to defend him. Serena questions why she would help Craig since Kelsey won't be getting some snacks in return. Kelsey, having vowed to protect her new friend with her honor, fights back against Serena and defeats her. However, as Craig has just completed the code to activate the Wishmaker, Serena grabs at it and both of them are sucked into the Wishmaker itself!

While floating inside of the Wishmaker, Serena explains to a confused Craig that this is where all the kids have made their wishes in the past. Since she's searched for the Wishmaker for too long, she exclaims that she will not let him undo her wish and they begin to fight. Utilizing the wishes, Craig gains the upper hand against Serena with super speed, laser eyes, and tall arms, while she counters with super strength, invisibility and being turned into a cat! Just then, both of them are knocked into a wish that transports them to a beachside neighborhood. Craig questions whose wish it is and Serena confirms that it's hers. She explains her past and how having to move to the Creek had left her angry and alone. Wanting to sail back to the sea, she pursued the Wishmaker to do so. Craig sympathizes with Serena's pain, feeling the same when he first moved into Herkelton Mills and wanted to return back to his hometown as well. However, he's learned from his adventure about the Creek, his new friends, and has accepted that he was just afraid to embrace the new changes. He emplores Serena to open herself to the Creek in order to let go of her anger. At first, she lashes out at Craig and pushes him against the wall, but then breaks down feeling the pain that she had denied for so long.

Unfortunately, water begins to seep into the Wishmaker, making the need to undo Serena's wish extremely urgent. After finding an unused flap above them, the two former enemies wish for wings and a jetpack to reach the top. Reaching for the flap. both of them make the wish to undo the flood and to save the Creek once and for all. Afterwards, Craig and Serena are transported back to the real world and are relieved that the flood is finally over. As Craig celebrates with his new friends, Serena is dismayed to see her ship deflate after being poked with the rock. After exclaiming that it's all over, she crushes the useless Wishmaker in despair as her plans to sail home are thwarted and her crew has gone.

Later, Craig manages to return Small Uncle to Jessica and writes a letter to Hannah delivering her journal back to her. The remaining Pirate Kids have decided to help repair the damages they've done to the Creek in remorse for their actions concerning the fellow kids. Meanwhile, Serena has found a canoe and plans to follow "wherever the Creek takes her." As Craig sees her off, the two share a friendly salute as she shoves off to find her own place in the Creek, no longer wrathful and searching for her own future.
