At the other end Millman was content play second fiddle, which all added up to a sturdy second wicket partnership. Winfield had been out for 12 soon after Northants declared at 303 for two. At the start today Northamptonshire continued their innings of 226 for two with such careful batting in the early stages that Jim Watts and Lightfoot put on only 11 in the first half hour. Afterwards there was little scoring activity, and Lightfoot survived an lbw appeal from Corran, and later the same thing occurred when Forbes replaced Corran, CENTURY UP Lightfoot scored only a single in the first 30 minutes, then drove Forbes for two successive boundaries.
