Archangel tells the story of four days in the life of Fluke Kelso, a dissipated, middle-aged former Oxford historian, who is in Moscow to attend a conference on the newly opened Soviet archives.

Set in post-Soviet Russia Harris posits the existence of a secret notebook that once belonged to Stalin and sends his main character, Dr. C.R.A. "Fluke" Kelso, a professor visiting Moscow, after the mysterious papers. Secreted by Beria after Stalin's death, no one seems to know of its existence.

Very Loosely Based on a True Story: The Western Allies actually did make incursions around the periphery of Russia in 1918-1919, including capturing the port of Archangel , in an effort to reconstitute an Eastern Front of World War I and, later, help the White Russians.

Archangel, an excellent action/adventure story, was filmed in Moscow and Latvia and originally produced as a two part BBC-TV series.
